Universal Free School Meals (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2)

All pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are automatically entitled to a free school meal under the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme.

You do not need to apply for this.

Please note: Free school meal vouchers are not automatically issued to pupils who are only entitled under the universal infant scheme.

Free School Meals (FSM) Who Can Apply?

Pupils may be eligible for free school meals if they, or their parents/carers, receive certain benefits.

You may qualify if you receive one or more of the following:

  • Universal Credit (with a net earned income of £7,400 or less per year)

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • The Guarantee Element of Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit (with an annual gross income of £16,190 or less and not receiving Working Tax Credit)

  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying)
