Safeguarding children and protecting them from harm is everyone’s responsibility. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is:
- Protecting children from maltreatment;
- Preventing impairment of children’s health or development;
- Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and
- Taking action to enable all children have the best outcomes.
Every agency that works with children will have their own Safeguarding Policy, which is relevant to their organisation. The Dales School Safeguarding Policy is adhered to by everyone in school, and is monitored, updated and adapted in line with national guidance and to reflect the needs of our school and our children.

All school staff are trained annually; all staff have clearance to work with children through enhanced DBS in addition to checks on prohibitions, sanctions and restrictions that might prevent the individual from taking part in certain activities or working in specific positions.
We have clear procedures in place to report any concerns (CPOMS). We also teach our pupils to keep themselves safe, both within the school grounds and in the wider world. We work closely with parents and wider multi-agency teams to ensure that there is clarity and understanding of our procedures in relation to child protection.
E-safety and child safety online is also a key feature of the work we do to keep our young people safe. We cover aspects of this within our ICT and PSHCE programme, in addition to offering training to parents. All staff receive annual E-safety training delivered by our own staff who are trained as CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) ambassadors.
