A lovely spring week in Blue Class

18th March 2022Ashley Brodie

It’s been a glorious week in Blue Class!

On Monday we had a fantastic trip to the library where we listened to a really special story, Dear Zoo, and then went to the park for ice cream!

On Tuesday we played outside during Forest School, and made gorgeous stained glass windows with tissue paper to brighten up our classroom!

On Wednesday we worked together to make incredible models of St Paul’s cathedral in our groups, as well as making a great big noise in our music lesson.

Thursday was our maths day, where we learned all about sequencing and telling the time. Then we finished off some of our art projects, ready for Friday!

Friday was art day, and Blue Class finished making their models for our “All Around the UK” display. Blue class made some amazing landmarks- Land’s End, Stonehenge, Tower Bridge and lots of others! We had a fantastic picnic lunch with sausage rolls, sandwiches and decorated cakes, and it was absolutely delicious!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

Happy Half Term from Blue Class!

21st February 2022Ashley Brodie

It’s been a very productive week in Blue class, as we’ve made a new friend called Beegu!

Beegu is a little alien who’s gotten lost on earth and needed our help to feel better. We’ve done lots of incredible work with a special focus on colours, emotions and friendship.

On Monday we read Beegu, and came up with lots of ideas about how Beegu felt during the story and why. We thought about the colours of Beegu’s emotions, and then painted beautiful pictures using all the colours we had discussed.

On Tuesday, Blue class had a special trip to Druridge Bay! We walked all the way around the lake, had a picnic and a play in the play area, and then walked down to the sea to play on the beach. Blue class were fantastically good on their trip, so we all had a great time! Well done everyone!

We have made friends for Beegu in our junk modelling sessions, paying attention to the things we like from our friends. Everyone did an amazing job, and Beegu’s friends are as varied as we are! We did some brilliant detailed writing about the friends we made, made friendship bracelets, and even some puppets!

On Thursday we had a really close look at Beegu’s body language and how art can inform emotions. We then made some amazing watercolour artworks, labelled with emotions, to talk about how colours can represent how we feel.

Our class dinner this week was on the theme of Italy, so Blue class made some incredible Pizzas and Pasta Bolognese. We sat together for lunch and everyone tried something new to eat that they had made themselves.

Blue class have had an amazing end to the half term, and we hope you all enjoy your week!

See you all soon!

A Dinosaur Week in Blue Class!

11th February 2022Ashley Brodie

This week in Blue class we have investigated loads of brilliant stories about dinosaurs.

On Monday, we practised our comprehension with some brilliant writing and drawing, all about Dinosaurs Love Underpants! Then in art, we made some fantastic dinosaur paintings with decorated underpants, just like in our story.

On Tuesday our story was I Can Roar like a Dinosaur, and we all learned about things that are “the same” and “different”. We painted portraits of our friends and talked about what makes us all special, and made 3D dinosaurs of ourselves!

On Wednesday our story was Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs, so made duplo mazes to solve with our friends! We also used the computers to make wanted posters for the missing dinosaurs, and did a special coding challenge to collect all the dinosaurs!

Thursday’s book was Tiny T. Rex and the Impossible Hug, and we all had a day all about emotions! We had a big discussion about the characters in our story, how they felt and why. Then we talked about what makes a good friend! We sorted emotions into “happy”, “sad” and “angry”, found out how to cheer up our friends, and even drew some amazing pictures of Tiny T Rex!

We also cooked up a huge feast for our Friday dinner- cheese and onion pie, with sticky toffee pudding for dessert.

On Friday we had a musical day with our story, Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus! We all had a go at making different sounds with instruments, describing our sounds, and making music in time with one another. Then we put on a spectacular class performance of our music, watching a conductor and all playing our unique parts!

As a really special treat, we also saw all of the animals that Animal Antics brought in to show us! We had an incredible time petting a rabbit, seeing a snake, holding some mice and even saying hello to a lovely hedgehog!

What a busy week it’s been! We hope you all have a fantastic weekend, and we’ll see you next week for more exciting activities!

Happy Chinese New Year from Blue Class!

4th February 2022Ashley Brodie

This week in Blue class, we’ve learned all about Chinese New Year! This year is the Year of the Tiger, so we found out lots about tigers to celebrate. Blue class learned all about animals who hide with camouflage, and made camouflaged animals to hide in the classroom!

We loved reading The Tiger who Came to Tea, learning about the story of the Chinese Zodiac animals, and had a magical surprise when the Magic Paint Brush left us a chocolate coin tree.

We made fabulous colourful masks of the zodiac animals, decorated cups in Chinese patterns, made our own teapots from clay, and prepared a feast for class dinner on Friday afternoon, featuring our very own tiger who came to tea! We all had the opportunity to try some lovely Chinese food and even use some chopsticks.

This week we also did some special work on our bodies. We found out what are the right names for parts are, which parts are private, and we listened to some catchy songs to help us remember!

Everyone in Blue class has had an exciting week full of activities, and we hope everyone has a restful, relaxing weekend.
