It’s been a knock out week this Week!

This week B9 have been learning all about one of the most famous boxers in the world Muhammad Ali and the swinging 60’s. The children discussed the motivational speeches and affirmations, as well a designing there own boxing gloves.

We have looked at the influential people, music, and fashion of the time. Discussing Black rights and the beginning the civil rights movement for equality and banning racial discrimination.

We have also looked at money and how we can successfully pay for things at the shops using our coins.

Fire Safety in B3

Class B3 enjoyed learning about fire safety this week while melting marshmallows.  All children stayed safely with an adult and took turns melting their marshmallows.  Safety gloves were worn and all children worked so well taking turns.

This week we have been finishing our learning on WW2, looking at rations and role playing being an evacuee and writing letters home to loved ones. We even went on to our very own train platform, got on the train and our teacher waved us off. All of the children loved investigating the train. We have also been celebrating Easter, the religious meaning and all the fun Easter things.

This term has been filled with learning all about British History, from William the Conquer and his bad hair, to Henry VIII and his poor wives, the jobs children had to do during Victorian times and not to mention the poor WW1 soldiers and the trenches!

Last week the children of B11 studied past events which have shaped Britain from the Roman Empire to World War 2. They used many art skills to produce a piece of art inspired by The Blitz. Children also studied the Industrial Revolution and together read the book Oliver Twist.

Artists & Illustrators

B8 have experienced life as an artist and illustrator in their own studio, they have enjoyed standing at the easel, drawing and painting with a variety of mediums.
They have looked at the work of Quentin Blake and today they tried to draw like Quentin under a table, using a pencil attached to a paintbrush. This week the children have also written their own stories, recorded their voices using a storyboard and illustrated with pictures.

B6 – Knights and Dragons of the UK

This week B6 have continued finding out about the history of the UK and it’s castles by delving into some of the myths and legends around knights and dragons from across the country. The children have followed step-by-step instructions to build their own dragon, and used the iPads to find out where different dragon legends have started in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. They’ve also spent some time hearing the story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, as well as hearing stories of some famous battles and sieges that really took place. The children have used their knowledge of mediaeval knights to design and build their own swords and shields, as well as design their own army of knights – using their number and addition skills to add up the cost of all of the knights’ equipment.

B6 have practiced their reading, spelling and writing skills in phonics, and some have continued writing their own storybooks. In addition the children have practiced their social skills in Lego therapy sessions, and demonstrated their independence skills by cooking big breakfast for the class – sharing out the cooking, cleaning, table-setting and serving tasks between themselves.

World War II

This week we have been learning about WW2, which countries were involved and the children have been making Anderson air raid shelters to help keep them safe when the bombs get dropped on the cities. We have also been investigating what it might be like to evacuate to the country, to leave the home and parents/ carers behind and move in with another family. The children enjoyed their ration breakfast … well we were kind and used our whole month of bacon ration!

Parents Easter Craft

The Parents at Blythdale site attended an Easter Craft Session today. It was so nice to be able to invite parents into school again.
