Last week in Oak Class we went to Woodhorn Colliery for the day. We went for a walk around the museum to see how the coal was mined and moved around the mines. We heard some of the creepy noises that the miners would have heard in the mine and how heavy the coal trucks used to be to move. We ended the day with a play in the new park and had an amazing day out.

Children of B11 took part in Work Book Day 2022. Their book focus was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. Children read part of the book, dressed up and took part in a drawing competition of Willy Wonka.

Children of B11 watched Texo deliver the train station in the school yard, which will soon be their school library.

This week we learnt about history, we spent time with the Normans. Discovering about the battle of Hastings 1066, how William the Conquer became king of England. We are creating are own version of the Bayeux Tapestry encouraging the children to use their fine motor skills.

B8 Cedar class have enjoyed listening to and making up their own stories this week, we particularly enjoyed World book day we decorated our door in the theme of the BFG. The BFG collected dreams and we drew and wrote about our own collections.

This week class B7 have celebrated World Book Day by reading and listening to some of their favourite stories. They have found out about the author A.A Milne and the stories of Winnie the Pooh. They made maps of the 100 Acre Wood (the garden) and found the characters from the stories. They then visited some real woods (Plessey Woods) and played Pooh Sticks on the bridges.
B7 also welcomed their teacher Mrs Holly Clark to their class who has returned to school following her maternity leave.

This week in Sycamore Class (B6) we have introduced our new topic – The UK – by looking at some classic British animated shows. The children have watched a range of classic animated shows from The Clangers to Wallace and Gromit and recorded their own reviews of each show. The children have then used their art and design skills to create plasticine characters, using the Stop-motion app on the iPads to create their own animated show. We’ve also been celebrating World Book Day this week, reading the story Mr. Men and Little Miss in London. The children have researched the various sights the characters visited in London, creating presentations on the laptops, and have painted their own Mr. Men linked to the zones of regulation.

This week in B12 we went on a trip to Plessey Woods!! We went puddle jumping, searched for Shrek and found the fairy houses. We ended the trip off with a great time in the park!! And even though it was wet and muddy the kids (and adults) had a really fun time.

This week in B10, we concluded our Prehistoric topic by having our very own dinosaur egg hunt. We learned about how paleontologists have to be very patient,and chip away at rock, slowly and carefully, so that they don’t damage any fossils that may be hiding underneath. We were excited when our patience paid off and the dinosaur within the eggs were revealed. In P.E this week we were playing dodgeball! Our throwing and dodging skills continue to improve so we are able to play more competitive matches. We have also been learning about the importance of sportsmanship, and why it is important to be gracious in both victory; and defeat.

This week the children had a special valentine’s big breakfast on Monday, then made chocolate covered cake pops to take home.  We have been learning all about the Hindu religion, researching and fact finding about their amazing Gods and Goddess. As it is coming up to half term the children have been understanding how to keep themselves safe and making yummy rice krispie traffic lights and practicing how to cross the road safely. Willow class hopes you all have a wonderful holiday and we can’t wait to welcome you all back, in the new term.

Prehistoric Topic

This week in B10 we continued our prehistoric topic and learned about how the dinosaurs became extinct. We looked at different theories and the evidence behind why scientists believe an asteroid was responsible 66 million years ago. We also came up with some of our own theories. We also baked our ‘volcano muffins’ to fit our extinction theme. They had a soft centre like a real volcano and they were delicious.
