We started the week off with a great visit to Plessey Woods. The children loved exploring and finding all the hidden artworks (and some not so hidden!). They’ve also learned about Stollen, a traditional fruit bread eaten in Germany around Christmas time and had a go at making their own. The children enjoyed their Christmas dinner on Thursday and have practiced their computing with the Spheros and the Kubo coding robots. Finishing off the story of Hansel and Gretel, the children have also done some writing to create fantastic ‘wanted’ posters about the witch from the story.
This week in 4A we found a dinosaur poop in our class! We read the clues the dinosaur had left to find out where he had left the book. We then used our imaginations to write our own stories about what would happen if we were given a dinosaur that came to life for Christmas. The stories were excellent!
We also started our festive activities. In keeping with our dinosaur theme, we made some dinosaur decorations to hang on the tree. We had a snowtastic time in the Winter Wonderland, where we made festive sensory bags and tried to make igloos out of sugar cubes. We finished our rather short week by making some lovely festive cake pops to take home.

Class 5B have really got into the Christmas spirit this week. We put up our decorations in the classroom and hung the decoration we made on the tree in the entrance hall. In the Winter Wonderland garden we watched The Snowman in Santa’s workshop.
We have made Christmas cards and presents, but we won’t say too much about those yet! We have even made a present for our friends in Class 4B.
We all sat together to enjoy our Christmas dinner, pull crackers and have a thoroughly festive time.

December has arrived, and this has been a very long and strange year. I think Santa knows that everyone needs cheering up, so he has chosen our school to take part in his ‘Surprise Raffle’
Every child in school will be entered into the draw, and one of his Elves will draw the names out (this will of course be done when the children have gone home – we don’t want any Elf Spotting in school so early) !!
There are a number of prizes, including Hampers, Tins of Biscuits, and selection boxes. So fingers crossed and good luck (but I am sure that there are enough prizes for everyone) !

This week in the garden a group of christmas Elves were playing hide and seek. We had great fun finding them in our special christmas school garden.
4A had a fantastic week with a variety of experiments. At the start of the week, we carried out a bubble experiment to see if we could make a bubble, inside a bubble, inside a bubble! It didn’t quite work out the way that we planned, but we learned to have a lot of patience! We also carried out an experiment to see what would happen to gummy bears if they were put in water. We left them overnight, and one of the bears had nearly tripled in size, just like magic! We made some fantastic cookies, they were nearly the size of our heads! We finished the week by welcoming in December and creating some beautiful Christmas crafts to take home.
You have all had a fantastic week 4A, you have all started to work so well together and I couldn’t be more proud!
This week we continued looking at traditional tales, reading Hansel and Gretel. We ordered and acted out the story then used coloured symbols to answer questions about it. In maths we revisited capacity, using water and other objects to fill, sort and order different containers. In science, this week, we continued looking at liquids and solids by making our own slime and chocolate bars though melting, freezing and mixing.
Most excitingly, we started our Christmas activities! We explored the winter wonderland that the elves had made for us. We loved the North Pole room as it had snowballs for us to play with. Our classroom has new fun things, like the reading area igloo, the North pole tough tray, the Christmas art area and the elf workshop, where we can build and wrap toys for those on Santa’s list. We also began making things for our Christmas goodie bags, making cards, ornaments and crowns. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in 2A.
This week class 5 have had a really busy week with Charlie and the chocolate factory coming to an end. This week we have made our own edible wall paper and discussed what makes a good egg and a bad egg. We have also carried a cookie excavation and then made our own! We made our own Christmas cards for a competition, and then made some tree decorations for our class tree.
On Thursday we went Orienteering to QE2 park in Ashington. We are getting really good with our map reading skills.
Next week we are going to begin our Christmas activities!

What a creative and fun filled week we’ve had this week!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed retelling the story of The Gingerbread Man – there has been some beautiful writing to retell it in their own words, as well as some very enthusiastic puppet shows! Friday was finished off by making our own gingerbread men – fortunately, they didn’t hop out of the oven and we were able to ice them beautifully!
Christmas has started this week – Twinkle the Elf has made an appearance again! He’s caused some mischief, but as all the children have set such a fantastic example for him, he brought a Christmas tree to decorate on Friday. It was a pleasure to see the whole class work as a team to decorate it and hear them discuss where to place ornaments without any support.
The highlight of the week was visiting the garden. It has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland, complete with Santa’s Workshop, a life sized gingerbread house and even a wardrobe to Narnia! We were so excited! Everyone had a wonderful time exploring and playing in the different areas – the excitement was palpable!
We’d love to tell you what else we’ve been up to, but lots of it is a secret – all will be revealed at the end of term when children come home for Christmas. I can tell you we have a class filled with extremely thoughtful children and we’ve been even more proud of them this week (we didn’t think that was possible!)

Class 10B went to Plessey woods on Monday and we explored the forest looking for micro habitats. On our trip we took advantage of the lovely scenery to take some photos for our photography project.
