14th January 2021Liz Sanderson

 Home Learning

Blythdale – Bubble 2

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you are aware, The Dales School is having to limit the number of children attending school each day to ensure the necessary health and safety measures are in place for both children and staff to keep everyone as safe as possible.

During this time we want to do everything we can to support you and your child at home with their learning journey. Our aim is to work closely with you to provide a personalised approach to home learning so that your child can make good progress in all areas of their development.

We recognise that every family’s situation is different and hope that you and your child are able to make good use of our offer.

  • We will telephone you each week to discuss how we can support your child.
  • We will provide a pack of resources to support your child with their learning including a visual timetable.
  • We will share your child’s basic and life skills targets with suggestions of how they can be supported at home.
  • We will provide you with a range of resources both online and in paper based forms to supplement our planned activities.
  • We will provide three learning activities per day that cover a range of curriculum areas. These will be posted on Tapestry or included in your pack.
  • We will arrange a live Zoom session twice weekly so that your child can see and communicate with their staff team and classmates.

Our timetable will stay the same each week so that the children know what to expect. You can access the activities at times that are suited to you throughout the day and set your child’s timetables up as you see best fit.

Happy Christmas 5B

17th December 2020Liz Sanderson

Class 5B have been celebrating Christmas this week. We made our Christmas Movie Night hampers ( we hope your family enjoy them), we had a disco in the snow in the garden and enjoyed a movie in the classroom.

We have also written some special letters to Santa and Santa delivered some presents to our classroom- it was very exciting! We finished our week by making Christingles to think about what Christmas is all about.

We wish you all a very merry Christmas.

5B It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…..

11th December 2020Liz Sanderson

Class 5B have really got into the Christmas spirit this week. We put up our decorations in the classroom and hung the decoration we made on the tree in the entrance hall. In the Winter Wonderland garden we watched The Snowman in Santa’s workshop.

We have made Christmas cards and presents, but we won’t say too much about those yet! We have even made a present for our friends in Class 4B.

We all sat together to enjoy our Christmas dinner, pull crackers and have a thoroughly festive time.

5B The Gingerbread House

4th December 2020Liz Sanderson

This week Class 5B have read the story of Hansel and Gretel. They made predictions about what would happen in the story and were quite surprised at how unkind the parents were.
When it was our turn to explore the Winter Wonderland in the garden we found a Gingerbread House with a witch inside. We had fun acting out the story and even pushed the witch into the oven!
Later we made our own gingerbread houses in the cookery room ready to design and decorate next week. We made salt dough gingerbread Christmas tree decorations too.

5B India

27th November 2020Liz Sanderson

This week class 5B retold the story of Pattan’s Pumpkin through role play and thought about what the characters would say. They followed instructions to make Indian sweets called Coconut Ladoo’s, we hope you like them!

We looked at google earth to find India again and compared the Western Ghat region with Northumberland. They both have mountains!

We also thought about how to keep ourselves clean and had a go at brushing our teeth with new toothbrushes.

5B Pattan’s Pumpkin and Diwali

23rd November 2020Liz Sanderson

This week class 5B travelled to India. We read the story of Pattan’s Pumpkin by Chitra Soundar about a farmer who grew an enormous pumpkin and saved the animals from a great flood. Pattan wrote us a letter and asked us to make a curry using vegetables from his farm. It tasted delicious!
We looked on google earth and found the Sahyadri Mountains where the story was based. We watched a film and chose pictures of the animals, people and places from the area to describe.
Last Saturday it was Diwali. We found out that Diwali is celebrated by the Hindu religion  all over the world. We made some crafts to celebrate including Diva lamps and Rangoli patterns.

Class 5B Remember

16th November 2020Liz Sanderson

This week we found out why we wear poppies on Remembrance Day. We created our own poppies and Mrs Sanderson showed us photographs of poppies on the war memorial in Morpeth. We thought about our own memories and put them in order.

Then we thought about what it might have been like during the World Wars. We listened to music and made war time scones – we hope you liked them!

5B Biscuit Bear

10th November 2020Liz Sanderson

Our topic started with a lump of pastry that we used to make  bears in different sizes. We began reading “Biscuit Bear” by Mini Grey. The children made predictions and placed the main characters of Horace and Biscuit Bear onto the Zones of Regulation to show how they were feeling. We thought of lots of describing words to use to describe Biscuit Bear too.

Then we followed a recipe to make Biscuit Bear some new friends. We designed how we wanted to decorate them and used icing to bring them to life. I hope they tasted as good as they looked!

We are looking forward to learning more about Food and Drink this term and how food helps us to celebrate special occasions.
