Train Update 16/02/2022

We had some special guests in school. Noel Forte and his team from Henkel came to demonstrate how to apply the weatherproofing product to the train. Henkel have kindly donated £50,000 of Weatherproofing products for the train project. This means there will be no water damage to the train. Thank you to John McCafferty, Mark Patterson, Barry Lewis.

Outdoor Learning – Dinosaurs

We have continued the theme of dinosaurs and have been working on different life skills and science based topics around dinosaurs. We found a T Rex skull buried in the garden and also discovered how birds are related to Dinosaurs.

Train Update & Justgiving

We had some great news this week, RW Mann Trust have kindly donated to the train project. Thank you so much, this will go towards developing out STEM carriage.

Also a big thank you to Mr Holmes who kindly made a donation to help. On this note we have created a ‘Just Giving’ campaign to help raise £10,000 to aid in the carriage development. If you would like to donate please go to https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/thedales-school.

We had a trip to Kirkmerrington School in County Durham. They showed us around their Class 142 Pacer train. We wish you all the best for your project. We are looking forward to Lesley visiting Blythdale to see our Train.

Road Safety Books

Northumberland County Council have purchased a one year subscription for 6 road safety books and 1 general child safety guide. These books are regularly updated and will be useful for staff, parents, their family and friends. The link for the books is https://northumberland.goodeggsafety.com

Smile Activity Sessions

Smile are ready and raring to go with a number of sport and physical activity sessions for disabled children, young people, adults and their families across the North East. They kick start the year with their first family session this Saturday 8th January at Blyth Sport Centre.

  • 1st Sunday of the month 11am-12.30pm at Sporting Club Cramlington
  • 2nd Saturday of the month 1.30-3pm at Blyth Sports Centre

  • 4th Saturday of the month 1.30-3pm at Jarrow Focus
5-10 years Session

Pathways 4 All

Pathways 4 All is a parent led charity, providing family centred play and leisure opportunities for disabled children, teens and young adults.

As well as their usual term time hours at the Tim Lamb Centre, they also welcome new parents to their coffee mornings, which take place at the centre, 9.30-11.30 Thursday mornings term-time. Refreshments are free.

Family Tree Coffee Morning

Following the success of the Family Tree launch event, the Family Tree group have arranged a follow up coffee morning with a focus on behavioural issues. The event is free for parents and carers of children with additional needs and any staff working with them are also welcome. The event will take place at the Blyth Scout Headquarters at South Beach Estate in Blyth from 9.15 – 12 noon on Wednesday, 24th November. A programme is attached for further information.
