Talking Cameras
At the Dales we have been involved in a photography based learning programme called “Talking Cameras”. We have worked in collaboration with The Forge, participatory arts company with generous funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
Over a two-year period, the children worked with professional photographers Madeleine Waller, Victoria Doyle and Lindsay Duncanson, learning new skills (including portraiture, landscape and abstract photography), practising these skills in a range of in-school and outside settings, and developing their own photography practice using professional digital cameras. While some of the project was curriculum-focused, much of the programme was led by the children themselves who had strong ideas about what they wanted to capture.
Some of the images have now been exhibited around both sites, they represent a small sample of the powerful photographs the children have taken. Impressive in their own right, this capturing of specific moments-in-time also offers a unique insight into the children’s worlds revealing what interests them and gives them joy.
