Habitats and Animals

11th February 2022Sam Lawson

We’ve had a fabulous week in Orange Class this week! We’ve followed our dinosaur designs and have created some beautiful habitats! The children have worked extremely hard and persevered with tricky materials to make their designs come to life and are all very proud of what they have achieved. Their habitats are individual to their dinosaurs and they have carefully considered what they will need to survive as an omnivore, carnivore or herbivore and what type of climate would suit their dinosaur best.

We’ve had Heather in class again to teach us music and we are getting better and better at keeping to the beat when playing different songs on the chime bars!

Friday was a very special day with a visit from Animal Antics in the morning, then Woody and Buzz in the afternoon! We’ve also made bird feeders with Rio and hung them in the playground, we’ll be keeping an eye out next week to see if we get any feathered visitors!

A Dinosaur Week in Blue Class!

11th February 2022Ashley Brodie

This week in Blue class we have investigated loads of brilliant stories about dinosaurs.

On Monday, we practised our comprehension with some brilliant writing and drawing, all about Dinosaurs Love Underpants! Then in art, we made some fantastic dinosaur paintings with decorated underpants, just like in our story.

On Tuesday our story was I Can Roar like a Dinosaur, and we all learned about things that are “the same” and “different”. We painted portraits of our friends and talked about what makes us all special, and made 3D dinosaurs of ourselves!

On Wednesday our story was Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs, so made duplo mazes to solve with our friends! We also used the computers to make wanted posters for the missing dinosaurs, and did a special coding challenge to collect all the dinosaurs!

Thursday’s book was Tiny T. Rex and the Impossible Hug, and we all had a day all about emotions! We had a big discussion about the characters in our story, how they felt and why. Then we talked about what makes a good friend! We sorted emotions into “happy”, “sad” and “angry”, found out how to cheer up our friends, and even drew some amazing pictures of Tiny T Rex!

We also cooked up a huge feast for our Friday dinner- cheese and onion pie, with sticky toffee pudding for dessert.

On Friday we had a musical day with our story, Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus! We all had a go at making different sounds with instruments, describing our sounds, and making music in time with one another. Then we put on a spectacular class performance of our music, watching a conductor and all playing our unique parts!

As a really special treat, we also saw all of the animals that Animal Antics brought in to show us! We had an incredible time petting a rabbit, seeing a snake, holding some mice and even saying hello to a lovely hedgehog!

What a busy week it’s been! We hope you all have a fantastic weekend, and we’ll see you next week for more exciting activities!

The Good Dinosaur

11th February 2022Jennifer Tatters

In Purple Class this week, we have delved further into the different periods of dinosaurs, and even looked at life after dinosaurs. We created a timeline which showed the different periods, and created a freeze frame of the evolution of humans, which was good fun! We even made our own time machines to take a step back in time!

We talked about the friendship between Arlo and Spot, and the qualities of a good friend. We finished the week by talking about the changing seasons, and created some lovely pieces of art on canvases.

We have thoroughly enjoyed this topic, and can’t wait for our last week!

Happy Chinese New Year from Blue Class!

4th February 2022Ashley Brodie

This week in Blue class, we’ve learned all about Chinese New Year! This year is the Year of the Tiger, so we found out lots about tigers to celebrate. Blue class learned all about animals who hide with camouflage, and made camouflaged animals to hide in the classroom!

We loved reading The Tiger who Came to Tea, learning about the story of the Chinese Zodiac animals, and had a magical surprise when the Magic Paint Brush left us a chocolate coin tree.

We made fabulous colourful masks of the zodiac animals, decorated cups in Chinese patterns, made our own teapots from clay, and prepared a feast for class dinner on Friday afternoon, featuring our very own tiger who came to tea! We all had the opportunity to try some lovely Chinese food and even use some chopsticks.

This week we also did some special work on our bodies. We found out what are the right names for parts are, which parts are private, and we listened to some catchy songs to help us remember!

Everyone in Blue class has had an exciting week full of activities, and we hope everyone has a restful, relaxing weekend.

Jurassic

4th February 2022Lee Wilkinson

This week in Class 5 we have been creating mod rock landscapes and using scratch coding to tell a story set in a Jurassic Forest. We also had a class debate about whether we agreed or disagreed that humans should become herbivores, as apposed to omnivores.

Dinosaurs Take Over!

4th February 2022Sam Lawson

We’ve had a lovely start to the new year with our topic Jurassic Park!

After reading the story Tiny T Rex and The Impossible Hug (a story about a T-Rex who wants to cheer up his friend by giving him a cuddle but has to practice), the children talked about things that they would like to achieve and how they could do so. These ranged from improving their handwriting to becoming an astronaut, but all of them agreed they would have to work hard and practice! We also talked about who they would like to send a hug to and why. The children drew around each other, measured their hugs, wrote a letter and have recently posted them – keep an eye on your letter boxes!

On Wednesday, we celebrated Chinese New Year. We had a delicious stir fry which the children made, played some Chinese music and worked as a team and as leaders to choreograph our own dragon dance!

Next week, we’ll be making our own dinosaur designs and their habitats come to life. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to!

This week in Yellow Class, we have been looking at the habitats of dinosaurs and created our own 3D landscape using modroc and clay. We also looked at different types of dinosaurs and created our own using balloons.

Fantastic Islands and Dinosaur Eggs!

3rd February 2022Jennifer Tatters

Purple Class had a fantastic week last week. We studied the book, ‘Tom and the Dinosaur Egg’, and discussed how we would protect an egg if we had our own. We set sail on miniature rafts, testing materials that would float or sink, and found out whether our predictions were correct. We made some delicious dinosaur islands, made out of brownies and some realistic islands made out of Modroc.

The children are having a roarsome time learning about dinosaurs, we are looking forward to seeing what is in store next week!

Pink Class (A1) – Volcano!

3rd February 2022Erin Spencer

This week pink class have learned about different types of environments. We investigated lots of sensory trays, exploring the different textures with dinosaur swamps, forests, beaches and volcanoes.

We also had a week long project making a volcano using Modroc. Building the base with newspapers, practicing tearing, scrunching and sticking, then wetting and adding the plaster strips and finally painting. We’ll be using our volcano for an outdoor eruption on Friday morning!
