26th May 2022Lee Wilkinson
We are busy creating some lovely new reading areas aroundĀ school. These will be spaces for childrenĀ to come along too and develop their reading skills and more importantly discoverĀ the enjoyment books can bring.
This is the new reading area set up in our reception.

Famous People – Artists

29th April 2022Lee Wilkinson

This week in green class we have done some fantastic learning about famous artists and their craft. On Monday we were introduced to the Scottish artist Steven Brown and his famous McCoos. We completed a CSI challenge using UV pens and a cryptex by looking at some different forms of art from famous artists throughout history. We then designed our own McCoo style highland cows to add to our pop up books that we would complete later in the week.

On Tuesday, we tried our hand at some photography and learned about the American photographer, Edward Weston. We then used our superb knowledge of algorithms to create a coded animation of the McCoo style animals we designed.

On Wednesday, we completed our second CSI challenge by solving various maths, English and science based challenges. We found out that one of our teachers had pulled off an amazing heist on our muffins that we baked in the morning. Luckily, seeing as we worked together as crime scene investigators, we managed to find them. In the afternoon, we did some brilliant team building challenges that worked on our communication as a class.

On Thursday, we did our weekly challenge carousel. We completed various activities such as jump the line true or false to assess our understanding of what we had learned so for this week. We then started our new PE topic for the term which is fitness and wellbeing. We did some circuit training to work on different part of our body and learned about living a healthy lifestyle. We then completed the writing for our amazing pop up books and checked over our writing for errors in spelling, punctuation or grammar.

On Friday we learned about kindness and the importance of being kind to others. We designed the kindest person in the world and discussed what traits this person would have. We finished the day with some challenge pack time and finally some PE to work on our individual PE targets. To see our work login to your child’s Evidence for Learning for some pictures and in depth comments on how they got on.

Orange Class Visit Scotland (Kind of)!

18th March 2022Sam Lawson

We started this week off with a wonderful trip to the park! The children were super sensible walking there and back and played beautifully. They even made room for younger children from a local nursery and offered to push them on the swings! Ā

We’ve learnt how to Highland Dance in PE – we got very dizzy!

We learnt about Scottish landmarks and places to visit. We then recreated the National Portrait Gallery by looking at famous artists and making our own self portraits in their style.

Next week, we’re learning all about Ireland! See you then!

A lovely spring week in Blue Class

18th March 2022Ashley Brodie

It’s been a glorious week in Blue Class!

On Monday we had a fantastic trip to the library where we listened to a really special story,Ā Dear Zoo, and then went to the park for ice cream!

On Tuesday we played outside during Forest School, and made gorgeous stained glass windows with tissue paper to brighten up our classroom!

On Wednesday we worked together to make incredible models of St Paul’s cathedral in our groups, as well as making a great big noise in our music lesson.

Thursday was our maths day, where we learned all about sequencing and telling the time. Then we finished off some of our art projects, ready for Friday!

Friday was art day, and Blue Class finished making their models for our ā€œAll Around the UKā€ display. Blue class made some amazing landmarks- Land’s End, Stonehenge, Tower Bridge and lots of others! We had a fantastic picnic lunch with sausage rolls, sandwiches and decorated cakes, and it was absolutely delicious!

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

UK – Northern Ireland

18th March 2022Lee Wilkinson

This week, green class have been learning about Northern Ireland.

On Monday we investigated some Irish folklore and discussed how these stories are different from our own. We completed our weekly escape room and created some Irish folklore characters of our own.

On Tuesday we spent the morning completing our models of famous UK landmarks in art. We assessed our models and completed some evaluation forms of the amazing work we have done so far. We then did some amazing coding work, adding some animations to the characters we created on Monday.

On Wednesday we did our weekly CSI challenge to start off the day. We then baked some Irish cookies for our St. Patricks day celebrations on Thursday.

On Thursday and Friday we had some St. Patrick’s day and red nose day celebrations and explored the local environment and land use around the school.

London’s Calling!

11th March 2022Sam Lawson

Our tour of the UK has taken us to London this week! First of we looked at where London is and what the English flag looks like.

We loved reading Katie in London and learning about all the sites! We worked in teams to build our own version of the London Tower Bridge using different materials. We also wrote some lovely postcards as though we were Katie and had visited London!

Next up, we learnt about the Royal Family. We looked at their family tree, then made our own.Ā

On Friday, it was outdoor learning with Rio. We chalked our own holiday scene, just like in Mary Poppins!

Next week, we’ll be visiting Scotland and putting on our very own version of the Edinburgh Fringe festival! We can’t wait to share our talents with you!

Sensational Scotland with Purple Class!

11th March 2022Jennifer Tatters

This week we have been learning all about Scotland, and our theme was Disney’s Brave. We have looked at the main cities of Scotland, researched our coat of arms and weaved some lovely kilts! We baked some delicious shortbread and created our own stories based on the legend of the Loch Ness Monster! We took a step back in time and looked at what life would have been like during the Vikings times. We designed our own Viking long ships and helmets, and learned how to spell our names in runes! We have had a fantastic week in class this week. What will we learn about next week…?Ā Ā

British Values and World Book Day!

4th March 2022Sam Lawson

What a busy week Orange Class have had!

we’ve kicked off this half term by learning about British Values. We were very interested to learn about The UK (and were amazed that the UK flag was the English, Irish and Scottish flags combined!)

First, we looked at Rule of Law. We read Oh No, George! and laughed lots at all of the things that went wrong, but then talked about how important rules and laws are and why we follow them to help keep us safe.

Then, we read Zog and the Flying Doctors to help us learn about Individual Liberty. We drew around our hands and decorated them, then wrote in an adjective that we thought described ourselves and made us special. We turned these into a wreath and made shields to show what makes us individual and special. Here are Lennox and Thomas’ shields!

We read This Is Our House to help us understand democracy. We talked about how important it is that everyone has a voice and discussed voting. It was then up to the children to decide which games we would play in PE through voting! To learn about Mutual Respect and Tolerance, we read The Pirates Next Door. We talked about pirates before reading the story – most of the children said they would want the pirates to move away and had a negative view of them before reading the book, but this quickly changed! They decided it was important to get to know someone before deciding what they would be like and talked about the different beliefs in the UK and how it’s great to be different!

On Thursday, it was World Book Day! The day started off with an investigation – someone had stolen the books! The children showed fantastic teamwork and problem solving skills when they read the clues and solved the mystery! They then worked together to write their own stories.

See you next week, when we will be learning all about England!

Happy Half Term from Blue Class!

21st February 2022Ashley Brodie

It’s been a very productive week in Blue class, as we’ve made a new friend called Beegu!

Beegu is a little alien who’s gotten lost on earth and needed our help to feel better. We’ve done lots of incredible work with a special focus on colours, emotions and friendship.

On Monday we readĀ Beegu, and came up with lots of ideas about how Beegu felt during the story and why. We thought about the colours of Beegu’s emotions, and then painted beautiful pictures using all the colours we had discussed.

On Tuesday, Blue class had a special trip to Druridge Bay! We walked all the way around the lake, had a picnic and a play in the play area, and then walked down to the sea to play on the beach. Blue class were fantastically good on their trip, so we all had a great time! Well done everyone!

We have made friends for Beegu in our junk modelling sessions, paying attention to the things we like from our friends. Everyone did an amazing job, and Beegu’s friends are as varied as we are! We did some brilliant detailed writing about the friends we made, made friendship bracelets, and even some puppets!

On Thursday we had a really close look at Beegu’s body language and how art can inform emotions. We then made some amazing watercolour artworks, labelled with emotions, to talk about how colours can represent how we feel.

Our class dinner this week was on the theme of Italy, so Blue class made some incredible Pizzas and Pasta Bolognese. We sat together for lunch and everyone tried something new to eat that they had made themselves.

Blue class have had an amazing end to the half term, and we hope you all enjoy your week!

See you all soon!

A Rawr-Some Half Term!

18th February 2022Sam Lawson

We’ve had a fab end to our half term and our last week with our topic Jurassic Park!

The children made their own volcanoes and then added different ingredients and quantities to see if they could make them erupt. They focussed on language for measurement and listened to each other brilliantly!

We’ve looked at 2D and 3D shapes, including going on a hunt for them around school and then designed our own Shape-O-Saurus dinosaurs!

Our story this week was If You Happen To Have A Dinosaur. The children found the story hilarious and loved coming up with different scanties for what they would do if they found a dinosaur. They used colourful semantics to come up with their own sentences to describe what was happening in their pictures.

It’s been a fantastic half term! We hope you all have a lovely break and we can’t wait to see you after the holidays to start our new topic, The UK.
