Week 5 – Vet

20th May 2021Beth Thompson

What a busy week we’ve had! This week we looked at the job vets do, caring for our animal friends.

In literacy we’ve explored different animals and looked at adjectives, describing different animal characteristics. We made poems, describing Woody and other animals. We also wrote a letter to Honey, Beth’s poorly dog. In maths we have been practicing our numbers, counting and adding. We used animals to count as well as practiced our number formation. In science we explored materials, experimenting with what sinks and floats.

As well as making lots of animal art, we got our own desk pets! We were each given a tiny animal and asked to care for them. We made them beds and named them all. We were great caretakers.

Next week we will be exploring teachers! See you then.

Class 4, Assemble!

20th May 2021Jennifer Tatters

We have had a super week in class 4! Our theme this week has been superheroes, and we have produced some heroic work! We researched superheroes and learned all about their powers. We showed real determination to make some fantastic superhero gingerbread, which we sold as part of our weekly enterprise in school. We put our bravery to the test when we made our superhero potions. The question is: did the children decide to add hero serum, villain serum or a bit of both? We even designed a skyline for our superheroes and used magnets to make them fly! We have flown through the week and graduated from Superhero school. Well done Class 4A, I am looking forward to another mighty week next week!

3A Olympics

10th May 2021Ashley Brodie

This week class 3A have been learning all about the Olympic Games and Olympic stars as part of our ‘Famous People’ theme. We have looked at healthy eating and the importance of exercise. We made our own jelly fruit pots to sell to staff as part of our class enterprise, they were a big hit with Mrs Lamb! Then on Friday we had our own Olympic closing ceremony with class 4 and 5. We marched around school with our Olympic flame torches, wearing our Olympic team vets and making lots and lots of noise with the musical instruments!

Next week we are learning about superheroes!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Week 4 – Dentists

10th May 2021Beth Thompson

This week in Class 2, we have explored dentists and teeth. We discussed how we look after our teeth, including looking at how what we eat affects our health and teeth. We got our own toothbrushes and give instructions to each other to practice brushing. We read ‘Alan and his big, scary teeth’ and retold the story, ordering pictures. We also made lots a teeth art.

In maths, we used teeth and mouths to continue exploring halving and doubling, which we were all amazing at! Well done, everyone. For science, we’ve started looking at materials, sorting objects by adjectives like soft, hard, rough and smooth.

We loved exploring our dentist roleplay and scrubbing whiteboard teeth clean with toothbrushes. Thank you all for your hard work this week. Next week we will have fun looking at Vets and our pets!

Week 3 – Medical Professional

4th May 2021Beth Thompson

This week we looked at medical professionals, focusing on doctors, nurses and paramedics. We looked at parts of the body and even made up a skeleton from bones we found around the classroom. We talked about how to keep happy and healthy, doing breathing exercises to relax and sorting healthy and unhealthy foods. We looked at x-rays and made art with cotton buds making up our hand bones.

In maths we looked at shapes, sorting circles, triangles, and squares, as well as identifying shapes in the real world, like clocks and books. In literacy we made poems about hospitals. We looked at pictures of hospitals and described what they could see. For science we played giant operation, using magnets to remove items from the body and using tweezers to remove items that did not move with magnets.

We loved playing doctors, wrapping each other in bandages in the role play area and using boogie boards as wheelchairs to direct our patients to different rooms.

Happy bank holiday weekend! We will see you on Tuesday where we will be looking at dentists.

A ‘Marvellously Magical’ week in class 4A

4th May 2021Jennifer Tatters

This week class 4A has produced some magical work! As part of our famous people topic this half term, we studied Harry Potter. To start off the week, we were sorted into our Hogwarts houses. We wrote letters home and produced some spellbinding treats including cauldron cupcakes and Butterbeer fudge. We took a trip to Diagon Alley and created a fact file for our magical pets. The children used their imagination to create some unique animals! We took part in a potions class which involved adding acid and alkaline products to boiled cabbage water. We couldn’t believe our eyes when the water changed colour! We took flight in our quidditch lesson and made our own brooms and rules for the game. To finish off our magical week we had a banquet in the style of Hogwarts and tried to recreate the Great Hall. The children have worked so hard this week and should be so proud of themselves. I’m looking forward to another lovely week!

2A Police Officers

23rd April 2021Beth Thompson

This week we continued exploring community helpers, focusing on the work of police officers. We discussed how we keep ourselves safe as well as the role of the police who also keep us safe. We played lots of police themed games and read lots of different books to learn about the different things police do for us.

We used police tools, like magnifying glasses and radios to hunt for the alphabet and also used stolen coins to investigate doubling and halving. Using colourful semantics, we made wanted posters and newspaper articles for stories about the missing coins. In science, we continues to look at forces and magnets, pushing and pulling the police car to see how far we could make it go and exploring which materials were and were not magnetic. In computing, we used robots (Kubo and Sphero Mini) to follow directional language, moving the robots from the police station to the crime, debugging and fixing problems along the way.

We were also lucky enough to have a visit from Woody. He came in to say ‘hi’ to us and let us stroke and cuddle him. We also gave him a few too many treats (lucky Woody).

Next week we will continue our topic and look at medical professionals. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and we will see you on Monday!

2A Welcome back – firefighter’s week

16th April 2021Beth Thompson

Welcome back, Class 2!

This half term we are looking at ‘Famous People’ in our community who we look up to because they help us. We focused this week on firefighters and the important job they do. We practiced what we should do in a fire, practicing a ‘stop, drop and roll’ procedures, crawling and discussed what number we should call for a fire. We even practiced a fire drill and made fire extinguishers to put out ‘fires’.

We did many science experiments too. We made ice melt in different ways to investigate which would be the quickest. We moved fire engines with magnets and we used a ramp to investigate the quickest way to get Fireman Frank from the station to the fire. In numeracy we focused on shapes. We made shape fire engines with paper and then we made biscuit fire engines with shapes we baked. We also sorted and transported shapes using the toy fire engines. In literacy, we read and made our own scripts, recording our friends’ sentences with the iPad.

This Friday, we will be sent home with a Firefighter training certificate and some optional home activities, including a fireman song. Next we will explore Police Officers.

2A End of Spring term

26th March 2021Beth Thompson

This week was our last week together before the Easter holidays. Because of this, we did lots of fun Easter activities, including making crafts for our hampers and lots of yummy cooking. We had an excellent egg-lympics on Friday, completing tasks like bunny hop race and an egg and spoon race, as well as an egg hunt around the class, practicing our instruction following as well as directional knowledge. We read lots of Easter themed books, including: We’re going on an egg hunt, Peter Rabbit’s Easter surprise, Easter parade, and The Great Egg-scape.

We’ve had a lot of fun in science this week, making an egg zip line, completing an egg sink or float experiment, and even making our very own bath bombs.

We hope you have a lovely Easter and enjoy your well deserved break.

See you in two weeks for an exciting, new term.

2A Flowers

19th March 2021Beth Thompson

This week we looked at flowers and growth in class 2. We planted and dissected our own flowers to investigate the different parts of a plant. We also made ‘rainbow veggie’ pizzas and flower decorated biscuits. We explored the garden again to see what different flowers and other plants we could find. We learned about bees and how flowers start growing by playing a bee pollination game with pompoms.

In PE we have been looking at basket ball skills, practicing our throwing and catching skills as well as our dribbling skills. We even worked in pairs and took turns very well.

Next week we will have lots of fun exploring Easter through lots of fun activities and crafts.
